This handsome country house was built in 1909 by a wealthy cotton baron as his summer residence. Set in 13 acres of formal garden, pasture and woodland, beside a quiet country lane, it offers peace and tranquility in abundance.
A disclosure: we don't take children, and we don't take dogs. Are you still with us? Good! Let's tell you more. Thornton Lodge has seven luxurious en-suite bedrooms, comfortably furnished and perfect for sitting and enjoying the views of the garden. With high-quality sprung beds, stylish toiletries, modern bathrooms and tasteful décor, you'll rise refreshed for breakfast. Breakfast is served in our beautiful oak-panelled dining room, and is really and truly local. The honey comes from our own hives, the jams are made in our kitchen, and the eggs come from the hens which you may spot wandering round the garden. If you don't want a cooked breakfast, or have a particular dietary preference or need, just tell us. Need an after-breakfast stroll? Take a walk round the grounds, and see if you can spot the red squirrels, deer or badgers, while avoiding the robotic lawnmower! If you want to find a longer ramble, there's a good library of guidebooks in the large guest lounge, and a really useful list on the Walks page of our website below. Vanessa Kilvington will be delighted to welcome you to Thornton Lodge, to experience one of Yorkshire's finest luxury five star B&Bs, and is happy to answer questions by email. Book our two-night minimum stay, and see why this is one of North Yorkshire's highest-rated getaways; book with us direct for three nights or more, and you'll enjoy a rising-rate discount.
