The Wensleydale Hotel is a charming family-run hotel. Middleham is well known for two things: firstly, Middleham Castle, childhood home of Richard the Third; secondly, as the base for one of the County’s largest horse-racing fraternities, boasting more than a dozen trainers in and around the town. Every day of the year you can see the racehorses being ridden up to the Low Moor, past the hotel, for their daily exercise. It’s a special sight, worth seeing.
The Tack Room Restaurant offers pan-European cuisine. House specialities include cured salmon, charcuterie, sourdough, and homebred free-range rare breed pork. Sample menus are available on the website, and there is something for everyone, from British classics like Beef Wellington to classic French like Tarte Tatin, and Italian dishes like Tuscan Bean Soup. If you have a particular dietary requirement we will happily make a special menu for you. The hotel bar welcomes with a wood-burning stove in the winter. In the warmer months you can sit on the south-facing terrace overlooking the market square and watch the world (and many racehorses!) go by. Local cask ales and a wide selection of wines by the glass are available, with a large choice of local gins and spirits. The Wensleydale prides itself on attentive service, and we look forward to welcoming you to the hotel and showing you the hospitality for which we are quickly gaining an enviable reputation.
