WELCOME TO RICHMONDSHIRE
"Richmondshire? Is that a real name?"
Yes. It dates back to 1173! In 1974 it was adopted for a Government District, which is now about to be absorbed into North Yorkshire County Council. But Richmondshire - the vales and dales around the ancient town of Richmond - is still very much here, and arguably the finest part of England. So, what better time to visit than Spring, the finest season of the year! Lambs are cavorting; fresh grass is bursting out; flower-meadows will soon be in bloom; outdoor pub lunches suddenly seem a good idea; castles, gardens and country-houses are fully open to visitors again, and the Swaledale Festival will soon be under way... Start planning on this site, and be sure to visit Richmond Information Centre while you're here! |
