Imagine yourself as a peasant, 950 years ago, scraping a living off the land and minding your own business, when these three chaps - and thousands more like them - suddenly appear and start building a castle in your back yard... Richmond Castle will be the scene of a fabulous two-day long Norman re-enactment this weekend, 25 and 26 September. Learn what it was like to live with the invaders. Lift a sword! Try on a hauberk! Taste the foods that the Normans brought with them, and watch the soldiers as they roar and clash in their training sessions! Conquest Living History is Britain's premier Norman re-enactment society, and often features on TV and in films. Visitors can book tickets for this unmissable event at this English Heritage web-page. Local residents with a DL10 or DL9 postcode will be allowed free entry, but do need to book with a special pass-code and show proof of residence, as described on the booking page.
