Richmond's Georgian Theatre has received over £50,000 from the Government's Culture Recovery Fund.
As well as helping to pay overheads which would normally have been covered from ticket sales, the funding will enable the Georgian to continue its guided heritage tours - which normally end in October - on weekdays throughout November, December and January. There are also plans to run special events such as festive tours and evening candlelit tours, in addition to the regular scheduled tours taking place on the hour between 10am and 4pm. Visitors to the Georgian in the next few months will also be able to view the progress of the auditorium development project designed to provide more comfortable seating and improved views of the stage.

Laura Wood is a best-selling 'Young Adult' author; her latest novel, A Snowfall of Silver, is currently #1 in Amazon UK's list of art-related fiction for Young Adults. And what has this got to do with Richmond's Georgian Theatre Royal..? It's the fact that Laura's heroine, eighteen-year-old Freya Trevelyan, has run away from her home in Cornwall to follow her dream of becoming an actress, and - yes, you can guess where her dream takes her! Our photo shows Jaime Gilpin, a member of The Georgian Theatre Royal Youth Theatre, reading her copy of the new book on stage. A Snowfall of Silver is a delightful coming-of-age romance. Priced at £7.99, it can be obtained from any good bookshop - preferably your local independent! Richmondshire Ramblers, the local branch of the national Ramblers organisation, is restarting its regular walks in a Covid-safe manner. While organised walking is now permitted in groups of up to 30, the local group is limiting group size to a maximum of 12. Further measures to increase walker safety include a formal risk assessment of each walk, taking a register for track-and-trace purposes, and adherence to social distancing. Brian Benson, the local Chairman, says there is plenty of demand for the sort of walks the group offers, which vary in length and difficulty and take place throughout Richmondshire. The walks that have taken place since early September have all been well supported, and more walks for October and November are planned. To find out more, or sample a walk, visit the Richmondshire Ramblers website, richmondshireramblers.org.uk, or ring Brian on 07815 182450, or Janet Milne, Group Secretary, on 01748 468637. |
